A good mold is engineered on the screen before any steel is cut. We review your part for manufacturability, design the mold in 3D and surface the risks before production begins.
From part to mold: our design approach
The process starts with the part itself. We review wall thicknesses, draft angles, the placement of ribs and bosses, the parting line and any undercuts. Where needed, we recommend changes that make the part easier to mold (DFM). This prevents defects such as sink marks, warpage and short shots at the design stage rather than in series production.
Filling and cooling analysis
Runner and gate selection, cooling channel layout and the number of cavities directly determine part quality and cycle time. Using Moldflow-based simulation, we evaluate filling, cooling, shrinkage and warpage behavior in advance and base our decisions on data. The analysis results are documented in a report and shared with you.
Production-ready documentation
The approved design is delivered with mold assembly and detail drawings, bills of materials and the 3D data required for manufacturing. If you choose to have the mold built in our workshop, design and manufacturing are handled by the same team, so no information is lost and revisions are implemented quickly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which files should I send for mold design?+
A 3D part model in STEP or IGES format, plus a technical drawing if available, is sufficient. If you only have a physical sample, we can create the model through 3D scanning.
Can I order mold design only?+
Yes. Even if the mold will be built elsewhere, we offer design and analysis as a standalone service.
Why is analysis necessary?+
Filling and cooling analysis reveals issues with gate placement and cooling design before the mold is built, reducing the need for costly mold revisions later.
How long does mold design take?+
It depends on the complexity of the part and the type of mold. After reviewing your files, we provide a firm lead time.
